Just a quick update from me on my exam progress.
I recently studied for and passed PPL Theory – Aircraft General Knowledge. This was another subject where you have to learn a high amount of facts.
In this subject which is closely related to principles of flight, you learn about gyros, aircraft construction, pressure, instruments, wing design, loading, ratios, balance tabs, wheels, batteries, circuits, voltage and lots more.
I recommend that you do this and the principles of exam flight simultaneously because there is quite a bit of cross over on the two subjects.
I wouldn’t say this subject was super difficult it is just a lot of information to learn and retain. I find that a few subjects are just learning a ton of facts and trying to get them to stick. This is one of them, as is air law and operational procedures.
I passed this exam on the first attempt with 75% which isn’t an amazing grade but it is the pass mark so at least I can get on with the next two.
I will be taking communications and meteorology next and have already started reading the relevent chapters in the EASA private pilot studies book.
I chose these two as the final exams will be flight planning and navigation and at that point I should have started those in my lessons so it should make the exams easier.
