Next up is PPL Theory – Principles Of Flight as I work towards my private pilots license.
Due to the way the rules are structured, I have 10 days from sitting my first exams to sit any more and they will class as 1 sitting.
Once again I am using EASA private pilot studies by Phil Croucher.
Now this is not a lot of time at all so I have tried to fit principles of flight in as I had already started to read the chapter and was a fair way through.
I think this is the hardest subject yet, as there are a lot of equations and physics to remember.
You have to learn about the aerodynamics of aircraft, such as why they stall and what causes the stall, how they fly, all about the wings and control surfaces but more importantly why they do what they do.
You will also learn all about the four forces (lift, drag, thrust and weight), angle of attacks, dihedral, ground effect, washout and much more.
It’s a lot to take in really and I have been studying hard trying to get the information to stick. If this is PPL level, this subject must be pretty difficult at ATPL.
This subject sets me up nicely for the next 3 exams I plan to take which will be aircraft general knowledge, flight performance and planning, and meteorology.
However I won’t be sitting them for a few weeks as I have to read all the required theory first and I won’t be able to do that until this weekend but I think the first two subjects should follow on from this one.
I still have a few more days to go before I sit the exam and as always I will be updating this post with the final score once I have sat the exam.

Edit – I failed the exam by one mark with 66% pretty annoyed at myself and feel I sat this exam too soon.

Edit 2 – I passed with 75%, still annoyed at myself but at least I passed.
